The real estate companies in Mazatlán linked to alleged money laundering, used to cover up Sinaloa Cartel operations in Mazatlán, are not affiliated with the Mexican Association of Real Estate Professionals of the port, reported Luciano Carrasco Altamirano.

The president of AMPI Mazatlán also clarified that they are not directly responsible for monitoring the origin of funds from real estate transactions, as their primary function is to professionalize the sector, promoting training and compliance with ethical standards.

“We are not aware of these companies that are currently affiliated with AMPI (…) I am currently unaware of the information you are asking about; in fact, I have not reviewed it. What I can tell you is that we are working on the issue of Mazatlán’s projection,” he said.

He added that they are responsible for ensuring that the developments comply with the legality of the land and prevent potential fraud, noting that all developments with valid permits are registered on the Mazatlán City Council’s Safe Real Estate Investment microsite.

“We invite them to go directly to the AMPI offices to inquire about a development and see if it complies with legal land requirements, or, failing that, to go to the Urban Development offices to verify,” he added.

When asked about the image that Mazatlán could project as a destination for money laundering in the real estate sector, he indicated that as an association they have been working to promote the port as a safe place for marketing developments, visiting cities such as Monterrey and Torreón, Durango, and soon Chihuahua.
