A wave of power outages has hit various areas of Mazatlán, leaving residents frustrated and concerned about the impact on their daily lives and health. The disruptions, which have been ongoing for a week, coincide with scorching temperatures that are taking a toll on the community.
Social media platforms have been filled with complaints from citizens who are fed up with the situation, which has become all too familiar in recent years. Many residents have suffered through prolonged power outages, extreme heat, and damage to household appliances during 2024.
Neighborhoods such as Real, Mañanitas, Villa Verde, San Joaquín, Pradera Dorada, Villas del Rey, Valle Bonito, Universo, Jaripillo, and others in the northern part of the city have been affected by blackouts. Power outages often occur at night, when residents most need a good night’s rest.
Moreover, the electricity supply is unstable, with many reporting that the power “comes and goes,” causing further frustration. Residents have filed complaints with the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) in an effort to address the issue, which they believe is exacerbated by the fact that it has not yet rained significantly in the city.
The prolonged power outages are causing concern among residents about the potential damage to their homes and the health of children who may be suffering due to heat-related issues.
