More than two thousand active workers from the Independent Union of Telesecundarias Workers of the State of Zacatecas (SITTEZ) held a day of protests this Monday, including a march on the metropolitan boulevard and the occupation of toll booths on the state’s main highways.
The mobilization, which blocked vehicular traffic for several hours, was part of the indefinite strike the union launched last Friday, which has left approximately 35,000 students from 890 telesecundarias across the state without classes.
The movement’s core demands
SITTEZ Secretary General Ernesto Macías Silva explained that this mobilization is due to the state government’s lack of attention to the issues they have raised for months.
The 2025-2026 school year for elementary schools incorporated into the SEP only includes 185 school days, so students will enjoy more vacation time.
Among the main demands are:
The immediate release of the pensions of 60 workers who remain suspended.
Their inclusion in the housing fund.
A solution to the salary issue related to teaching hours.
In telesecundaria, we work 35 teaching hours and are only being paid for 31. We workers deserve decent treatment.
Ernesto Macías Silva, General Secretary of SITTEZ
Protests
The contingent gathered at 8:30 a.m. in Plaza Bicentenario, from where they departed minutes later for the ISSSTEZAC office. The march completely halted vehicular traffic on the metropolitan boulevard in both directions, generating heavy traffic congestion.
The group then strategically divided to simultaneously take over the Osiris, Calera, Vetagrande, and Morfín Chávez toll booths. According to the union, these actions continued until 5:00 p.m.

The indefinite strike has significantly affected the state education system, leaving thousands of high school students without classes. Macías Silva warned that the situation will continue until concrete responses are received from the state government.
“We will continue to take over public buildings until our voices are heard,” declared the union leader, who confirmed that the protest actions will continue throughout the week.
