The Mexican capital stands out as the most competitive state in the country due to its administrative, economic, and infrastructure center.
The State Competitiveness Index of the Mexican Institute for Competitiveness (IMCO) provides an overview of the strengths and weaknesses of the country’s 32 states to assess their overall competitiveness levels.
This index considers economic diversification, access to connectivity, and infrastructure levels in terms of attracting investment and talent.
Baja California Sur, Nuevo León, Jalisco, Aguascalientes, and Querétaro also ranked among the top five most competitive states, in that order.
Meanwhile, Chiapas ranked as the least competitive state in the country, with a score of “very low.” The southern state was joined by its neighbors, Guerrero and Oaxaca, in the ranking of Mexico’s least competitive states.
