80 new officers graduate with honors from the Mazatlán Merchant Nautical School

After four years of dedication, effort, and perseverance in their studies, 80 new officers from the Naval Pilot and Naval Engineer programs graduated with honors this Saturday from the “Capt. Alt. Antonio Gómez Maqueo” Merchant Nautical School in Mazatlán, amid a moving ceremony.

In the presence of naval commanders, institution authorities, guests, and hundreds of parents, 51 pilots and 29 aspiring engineers from the 2021-2025 class completed their academic training and declared themselves ready to embark on their next voyages, where they will proudly represent the Nautical School.

The presidium of the Graduation ceremony was composed of Alejandro Camacho Arteaga, director of the Mazatlán Merchant Nautical School; Manuel Fernando Gutiérrez Gallardo, general coordinator of Ports and Merchant Marine; Edy Alberto Meléndez Cedillo, chief of staff of the Fourth Naval Region; Captain Mauricio Cruz Reyes, rector and director of the Maritime and Port University of Mexico; Mariel Aquileo Ancona Infanzón, director of Asipona Mazatlán, among others.

Led by Frigate Captain Mario Alberto Gasque Ramos, Commander of the Student Corps, the officers marched gallantly through the school courtyard, saluted the presidium, and carried out the escort changeover by the graduating students with the student cadets.

In addition, recognitions of academic excellence were presented to graduates in the Naval Pilot and Naval Machinist programs. With Leonardo Tadeo Zamudio Castellanos, Roberto Zamora Barbosa, and Florencia Delgado Tiznado representing the pilots, and Carlos Saúl Lorán Suárez, Rodolfo Sánchez Gutiérrez, and Erick Rendón representing the engine room candidates.

The 80 graduates of the Nautical School then marched to the front in eight groups of 10 to receive their diplomas and shake hands with the presidium. The school’s marching band played the “Tres de Diana” (Three of Diana) in honor of the graduating students and staff recognized at the ceremony.

The emotional part of the ceremony came with the speech by Pilot Catalina Monserrat Rodríguez Madera, representing her fellow graduates. She highlighted the experiences learned over the years, the effort put into each class and practice session, and the courage to face the challenges that lie ahead in their personal lives.

“I would like to deeply thank the Mazatlán Merchant Nautical School, our second home. Here we not only acquired theoretical and practical knowledge, but we also forged the values ​​of tradition, discipline, honesty, courage, loyalty, honor, pride, and patriotism. Therefore, we are grateful for forging our spirit, guiding us, correcting us, and training us, and for making each of us merchant mariners with character and vocation.”

After several speeches from officials and the singing of the National Anthem, Captain Mario Alberto Gasques Ramos exhorted and proclaimed the Nautical School’s values. The class also held a final parade and the traditional farewell march in honor of the graduates, performed by the military band.

The graduation ceremony for pilots and engine room trainees concluded with the officers’ rest break, allowing them to celebrate their academic achievements with their families, while taking photos and saying goodbye to each other.
