Hotel entrepreneurs are seeking to expand low-impact hospitality models in Mexico, with a concept that will position it as a benchmark for innovation.
Through the Lunah hotel chain and FUNGI, a hotel concept that integrates art, high-rise architecture, and territorial regeneration, investors will allocate $5 million to develop 14 hotel rooms nestled in the Sierra Gorda mountains of Querétaro.
The rooms will be capsules elevated 270 meters in the mountains that run through the municipality of Cadereyta.
“FUNGI’s proposal is aligned with a holistic approach that integrates environmental conservation, social development, and economic growth, with a strong emphasis on the responsibility of all stakeholders involved.
“This first project in the Querétaro mountains, which will undoubtedly mark a milestone in sustainable hospitality, will require approximately two years of development,” stated Horacio Peña, CEO of Lunah and partner of Ovo Patagonia, in a recent interview.
FUNGI will be developed by the company Perspectiva Aérea, which recently completed a hotel model for the Lunah chain, whose capsules are nestled in the mountains of Patagonia, Chile.
Luis Enrique Aparicio, founding partner of Perspectiva Aérea, believes that the sustainable hotel industry in Mexico can have a significant economic impact if care is taken to minimize the impact on the ecosystem.
For the operation of the sustainable hotel, Lunah plans to provide less than 20 liters of water per night to the two guests who will be able to sleep in each capsule.
“This commits us to “sustainable waste management through dry toilets,” Peña added.
Both executives emphasized that achieving sustainable tourism requires educating tourists about the use of natural resources, so that going on vacation or having an experience should not require increased use of water and other natural resources to achieve comfort.
