The lawsuit filed a few days ago against Intercam and CIBanco, as well as the brokerage firm Vector, has kept account holders and savers of these three financial institutions in suspense.
On June 30, CIBanco announced that VISA had suspended the bank’s international transactions and, at the same time, announced that account holders’ funds are fully safeguarded and available for reimbursement upon request.
This situation raises questions among users about the procedure they should follow to recover their funds and transfer them to an institution they trust and trust.
The CNBV (National Commission for the Protection of Personal Data) has placed these entities under administrative control, meaning the administrative positions will be filled by current employees; however, they are operating and will continue to operate regularly.
How can I request a refund of my funds?
CIBanco offers various products in local currency, including debit, savings, and payroll cards. Naturally, many people keep money in these accounts for savings and current expenses, so accessing these funds with certainty about their availability is a priority.
According to information obtained at a branch, the process for requesting a refund is relatively simple. Account holders must:
Go in person to a CIBanco branch
Present their physical CIBanco card
Show a valid government-issued ID
Sign the corresponding applications and documentation
Choose whether they wish to receive the funds in cash or by transfer to another Mexican bank account
It is important to note that this process must be completed in person by the account holder. Upon completion, customers will receive a folio number to track their refund or submit clarifications through CIBanco’s customer service channels.
Procedure for accounts in foreign currencies
CIBanco also offers products in other currencies, designed for people who travel frequently abroad and need to use foreign currencies.
If you have a multi-currency account or a currency other than the Mexican peso, you must follow the same procedure to recover your funds. However, they will be delivered in the original currency of the account (if available) or in its equivalent in Mexican pesos. It’s important to note that for these multi-currency accounts, the money will be delivered only in cash.
Security Recommendations
Considering that you could receive a large sum of cash, experts recommend:
Go to the branch with someone else to make the withdrawal.
Keep the money in a safe and discreet place.
Return home immediately after completing the process.
Also, you should consider that a significant influx of users has been reported at some branches, which has led to long lines and extended wait times. It’s advisable to be patient and allow enough time to complete the entire process.
