Tulum: Hoteliers call for the elimination of the entrance fee to Jaguar Park

Faced with the decline in tourism in Tulum due to the sargassum washout and the low season, hoteliers have asked Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration to eliminate the entrance fee to the beaches of Jaguar National Park (PNJ) during the contingency, in order to attract domestic tourism.

Antonio Paparella, a hotelier, said that Tulum is going through one of its worst moments. “I think we’ve reached the lowest point in Tulum, at least since I’ve been here 10 years ago. It would be good if we all got together, especially the townspeople, and did something to ask the federal government to reopen this park (referring to free admission to the site),” he said, according to La Jornada.

Paparella also mentioned that Tulum needs free public beaches, as he believes it’s unfair that tourists can’t bring their umbrellas and coolers to the beaches without having to pay.

Verónica Genovaly, director of the Environmental and Labor Unit at the Jaguar National Park, noted that the request is being processed for federal government review.
