The rains in Mexico City (CDMX) again caused flooding in some areas of the nation’s capital, especially in the Tláhuac borough, where a severe storm hit on the afternoon of Thursday, July 24, 2025.

Early this morning, the Secretariat of Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection (SGIRPC) issued a warning about the expected rains for today in Mexico City; later, it activated Yellow and Orange alerts due to the severe weather forecast for much of the capital.

Flooding today in Mexico City: cars underwater

Due to the heavy rains, flooding was reported mainly in the Tláhuac borough. Emergency services responded to the Santiago Sur and La Nopalera neighborhoods, where water almost completely covered a vehicle.

An elderly man was rescued from a car that was underwater after Thursday’s storm in the Nopalera neighborhood.

The man, who said he was 94 years old, said that he became stuck in the mud when the rain started and was unable to get out of the vehicle. However, he indicated that he was in good health, although nervous about the situation.

Thursday’s Rain Actions

The Secretariat for Integrated Water Management (Segiagua) reported that emergency teams responded to the Nopalera neighborhood to address the reported flooding.

For its part, the SGIRPC (National Civil Protection Agency) indicated that alerts remained in effect for the evening, as heavy to very heavy rains, showers, possible hail, and strong wind gusts were expected.

For Friday, July 25, Civil Protection again forecast heavy rains and showers, as well as winds with gusts close to 50 kilometers per hour.

Therefore, the public was advised to remain alert to the SGIRPC’s Early Warning System.
