Dental surgeon Ribsaim Rodríguez Reta was murdered Saturday night after resisting an assault that attempted to steal his truck in Boca del Río, Veracruz.
According to police and local media reports, armed men intercepted the doctor outside his home in the Costa de Oro neighborhood around 8:00 p.m., trying to prevent the theft of his truck.
When he resisted the assault, at least three criminals shot him and fled in his white Kia Sportage.
Relatives reportedly found his body and contacted authorities to locate the stolen vehicle.
Since his truck had an active GPS, authorities located the vehicle about 5 kilometers away from the attack in the port of Veracruz.
A shootout between criminals and police occurred in that area, resulting in the wounding of one of the armed men, while the others continued their escape north of the municipality in the stolen vehicle.
Minutes later, the truck was found abandoned with no one inside near downtown Veracruz.
WHO WAS RIBSAIM?
Ribsaim Rodríguez Reta was a dental surgeon who graduated from the military school of the Ministry of National Defense and worked in the Veracruz state government’s health sector in various municipalities such as Soledad de Doblado, Córdoba, and Camarón de Tejada.
The dental specialist also owned a private clinic, “Odontoret,” in the Veracruz-Boca del Río metropolitan area.
Family members, friends, and coworkers of the victim sent messages of condolence and demanded justice: “When I heard the shots, I never believed they were executing such a beloved colleague,” wrote Érika Velázquez on social media.
They expressed their outrage at the “horrendous crime” by demanding justice.
