The synergy between the governments of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo and Oaxaca Governor Salomón Jara Cruz is transforming the state’s highway network in the Mixteca and Coastal regions, with the launch of conservation and maintenance works on the Huajuapan-Putla and Pochutla-Huatulco sections.
These improvements promote trade, security, tourism, and community unity. According to the Oaxacan governor, they respond to long-standing requests from the communities.
These actions will not only open roads, but also a future of well-being for the people of Oaxaca,” he stated.
Jara Cruz affirmed that these highways mean that a woman will be able to arrive at a clinic on time, that a girl will be able to travel safely to school, and that a producer will be able to deliver their goods without depending on the weather or sidewalks.
Accompanied by the Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT), Jesús Antonio Esteva Medina, he kicked off work on the Huajuapan-Tlacotepec-Juxtlahuaca-El Carrizal-Putla de Guerrero highway, which covers a length of 160.3 kilometers and requires an investment of 425 million pesos.
It should be noted that this section is one of the five contemplated in the Lázaro Cárdenas del Río General Plan. implemented by the federal government in the Mixteca region of the states of Oaxaca, Puebla, and Guerrero.
It is worth noting that this ambitious project plans to address more than 1,000 kilometers of roads, with an investment of more than 5.9 billion pesos.
In Santiago Juxtlahuaca, 238 kilometers are being worked on this year, and another 77 kilometers will be completed in 2026. This will bring the region’s indigenous communities closer together and facilitate access to basic services.
Simultaneously, on the Oaxacan coast, work is being carried out on the Pochutla-Huatulco section, which is part of the Salina Cruz-Zihuatanejo highway axis. It will become a corridor connecting with the Isthmus of Tehuantepec Interoceanic Train and the Barranca Larga-Ventanilla Highway, which connects to central Oaxaca.
This 25.6-kilometer project will improve connections between communities, facilitate the transportation of goods, and increase traffic. Safe and fast transit for users; with the widening of the road from 7 to 12 meters, which will require an investment of 1.309 billion pesos.
Today, with this section connecting Pochutla with Huatulco, we are not only shortening distances: we are bringing opportunities, development, and well-being closer to our people,” said Jara Cruz.
Oaxaca’s progress in recent years is unparalleled; both highway projects are the result of the vision of humanistic, territorial governments, sensitive to the needs of the people, especially those least fortunate.
The modernization of these two communication routes will boost the well-being of more than 4 million people living in the communities connected by these roads. Furthermore, the execution of the works will directly benefit 14,650 people employed in the construction processes.
