On Thursday afternoon, the body of Braulio Conde Sánchez, a Red Line taxi driver in San Blas, Nayarit, was found. He had been reported missing after he had set out to rescue three children and a woman who were being swept away by a stream in the community of Aticama.
The tragic incident occurred during heavy rains that caused the stream to overflow its banks. Realizing the danger, Braulio jumped into the water and managed to rescue the children and the woman, identified as Candelaria García Ramírez. However, the force of the current ultimately swept him away, and a search operation has since been underway with support from Civil Protection, the Navy, the National Emergency Commission, and citizen volunteers.
Braulio’s body was found in the area known as Playa Las Brujas, a considerable distance from the rescue site.
His act of bravery has been recognized by authorities and citizens as an example of love and sacrifice. The mayor of San Blas, José Antonio Barajas López, expressed his condolences to the family and emphasized that “their courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten.”
