As part of a national operation against illicit activities related to the purchase, modification, and sale of weapons linked to organized crime cartels, federal authorities carried out 16 raids, one of which was carried out in Nayarit, Secretary of Security Omar García Harfuch reported this Thursday.
The report indicates that the operations, led by the Navy, the Attorney General’s Office, the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection, the Ministry of National Defense, and the National Guard, resulted in the execution of 10 arrest warrants for organized crime involving arms stockpiling and trafficking.
Among those arrested is Santiago “N,” identified as a weapons retailer in Nayarit, as well as other members of the structure that operated primarily in Jalisco.
According to the investigation, the network was led by Héctor “N,” identified as the plaza boss of an organized crime cell, who was in charge of the purchase, modification, and distribution of weapons.
The cell included financial, logistics, and technical personnel specialized in altering weapons parts, according to the official statement.
A total of 14 people were arrested, including alleged financial and logistics personnel, as well as collaborators linked to the distribution of weapons in various states.
Authorities seized long-range weapons, grenades, magazines, tactical equipment, vehicles, and 16 buildings, one of which was used as a gunsmith’s workshop and warehouse.
