Acolman, State of Mexico (MiMorelia.com).- From Acolman, State of Mexico, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo launched the new repaving trains of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT), which will rehabilitate the Federal Highway Network. The goal is to have all the country’s roads managed by the Mexican government undergo initial work by mid-2026.
“With these trains, in addition to other contracts we are making, our goal is that by perhaps the middle of next year, we can have completed initial work on all of our country’s federal highways. In some cases, it will be deep work, in others, patching, but we will be in a completely different position for federal highways,” she reported.
She explained that this is a new repaving scheme that is more efficient, less costly, and innovative, and that restores the SICT’s capacity to carry out works that were outsourced under neoliberal governments.
“We are talking about professionalism, honesty, and the recovery of the Mexican government’s capabilities; we are talking about austerity because it is done with fewer resources, but it is done better; we are talking about technological innovation for our country, and above all, and most importantly, because it is made for the inhabitants of our country, for the people,” he added.
He noted that the problem that most afflicts Mexicans, according to opinion polls, is potholes and damaged roads, so he is confident that this program will directly address this need.
The 30 repaving trains will have an investment of 1.692 billion pesos (mdp): 20 will be used to serve 15 states in the country. In the first phase, two will be delivered to the State of Mexico, and the remaining eight will be for the states of Aguascalientes, Baja California Sur, Campeche, Colima, Chihuahua, Guerrero, Jalisco, and Veracruz.
While 10 will be donated as part of the Comprehensive Plan for the Eastern State of Mexico, “Love is Paid With Love,” to the municipalities of Tlalnepantla, Nezahualcóyotl, Chalco, Chicoloapan, Chimalhuacán, Ecatepec, Ixtapaluca, La Paz, Texcoco, and Valle de Chalco Solidaridad.
The head of the SICT, Jesús Antonio Esteva Medina, explained that the 10 repaving trains are made up of 152 new machines: 22 milling machines, 28 oilers, 30 metal rollers, 30 pneumatic compactors, 30 feeders, six reclaimers, and six shovel rollers.
He explained that the two trains delivered to the State of Mexico will begin rehabilitation work on the Texcoco-Ecatepec and Texcoco-Los Reyes sections, with nighttime work from 10:00 PM to 4:00 AM. She added that the goal by the end of next year is to have a paving train for each state in the country. She also reported that nearly 17 billion pesos will be invested in the maintenance of 47,914 km of the Federal Highway Network, which will generate 37,000 jobs.
The governor of the State of Mexico, Delfina Gómez Álvarez, emphasized that the rehabilitation of federal highways is part of the Comprehensive Plan for the East of the State of Mexico and pledged to join the rehabilitation of state highways.
