In the state, 13 cases of measles have been reported, imported from the states of Chihuahua and Sonora. Therefore, with the arrival of agricultural workers to the Guasave municipality, a vaccination campaign against this disease has been launched to immunize the population.

Cuitláhuac González Galindo, State Secretary of Health, explained that Sinaloa has a 90 percent vaccination rate, but this does not mean they will let their guard down; on the contrary, they must reach 100 percent.

He explained that, since it is traditional for agricultural workers arriving in the state during this summer season to come from the neighboring state of Chihuahua, they will be monitored to ensure that all of them have the measles vaccine, and if they do not, they will be given one.

Of the 13 cases of this contagion reported in the state, the highest incidence is in the community of Juan José Ríos, where day laborers live and work in the agricultural fields. Therefore, a coverage program was implemented.

The Secretary of Health noted that vaccination teams are being deployed to the neighborhoods to vaccinate the general population in order to prevent an outbreak of this disease that affects health.

Jesús Gamez Valenzuela, a pediatrician at the Center for Research and Teaching in Health Sciences at the Autonomous University of Sinaloa, recommended that people should see a doctor if they experience a high fever, cough, runny nose or rhinorrhea, watery eyes, and sensitivity to light.

He noted that measles begins with a mild to moderate fever, with an incubation period of seven to 14 days. Therefore, given the recent cases detected in the state, the unimmunized population should be vaccinated.
