Heavy rain hit the city of San Cristóbal de Las Casas on Monday afternoon, leaving flooded streets in several neighborhoods and damaging roadways.
The downpour caused the Chamula River to overflow its banks, increasing the concern of residents near its banks, who reported that the water level rose rapidly in a matter of minutes. The water entered several homes, causing alarm among the affected families.
Municipal Civil Protection, along with Public Safety personnel, conducted preventive patrols to monitor the flooding and rule out major risks to homes and businesses in the area.
Authorities recommended that the population remain alert, avoid walking through flooded streets, and heed official calls in case of further rain.
