56 “experiences” from different municipalities will advance to the second phase of Capacity Building for Mexico’s National Guide to Community Tourism Experiences

As part of the public policy promoted by Julio Menchaca Salazar’s administration, which recognizes community tourism as a priority program, the state Secretary of Tourism, Elizabeth Quintanar, emphasized that “the Ministry of Tourism personally assumes this commitment, and today we see the work of our communities reflected in this important result.”

The state reaffirmed its commitment to community-based and sustainable tourism by having 56 experiences from different municipalities advance to the second phase of Capacity Building for Mexico’s National Guide to Community Tourism Experiences.

The selected municipalities were: Acaxochitlán, Alfajayucan, Atlapexco, Cardonal, Chapantongo, Chilcuautla, Cuautepec, Eloxochitlán, Epazoyucan, Huasca de Ocampo, Huejutla de Reyes, Huichapan, Metztitlán, Mineral del Chico, Nicolás Flores, Nopala de Villagrán, Pisaflores, Santiago de Anaya, Tecozautla, Tepeapulco, Tepeji del Río, Tenango de Doria, San Bartolo Tutotepec, and Zimapán.

The attractions offered include springs, waterfalls, mines, hiking trails, spas, handicrafts, traditional cuisine, and tours to discover the biodiversity, culture, and hospitality of the Hidalgo people.

In this regard, the official emphasized that this tourism model represents a distinct alternative to conventional tourism, as “the tourism product consists of sharing cultural and natural wealth through respect for community traditions, recognizing their heritage value and biodiversity.”

To be considered, the municipalities met criteria such as management, authenticity, heritage, accessibility, decentralization, financial inclusion, gender equality, and sustainable positive impact, in accordance with the guidelines of the Federal Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) and UNESCO.

In total, Hidalgo submitted 307 projects, of which 56 advanced to this second stage, thereby boosting the local economy, cultural identity, but above all, social justice and the conservation of the communities’ natural wealth.
