Through the Ministry of Tourism, Hidalgo advanced 56 experiences from different municipalities to the second phase of capacity building for the National Guide to Community-Based Tourism Experiences in Mexico.
The selected municipalities are Acaxochitlán, Alfajayucan, Atlapexco, Cardonal, Chapantongo, Chilcuautla, Cuautepec, Eloxochitlán, Epazoyucan, Huasca, Huejutla, Huichapan, Metztitlán, Mineral del Chico, Nicolás Flores, Nopala, Pisaflores, Santiago de Anaya, Tecozautla, Tepeapulco, Tepeji, Tenango de Doria, San Bartolo Tutotepec, and Zimapán.
The attractions offered include springs, waterfalls, mines, hiking trails, spas, handicrafts, traditional cuisine, and tours to discover the biodiversity, culture, and hospitality of the Hidalgo people.
In this regard, Secretary Elizabeth Quintanar emphasized that this tourism model represents a distinct alternative to conventional tourism, as “the tourism product consists of sharing cultural and natural wealth through respect for community traditions, recognizing their heritage value and biodiversity.”
To be considered, the municipalities met criteria such as management, authenticity, heritage, accessibility, decentralization, financial inclusion, gender equality, and sustainable positive impact, in accordance with the guidelines of the Federal Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) and UNESCO.
Hidalgo submitted a total of 307 projects, of which 56 advanced to this second stage.
