This is a minute-by-minute summary of President Claudia Sheinbaum’s morning press conference this Thursday, August 21, held at the National Palace. Fuerza Informativa Azteca (FIA) brings you the highlights. One of the most anticipated topics is the president’s address about the LP gas pipeline explosion on the Concordia Bridge in Iztapalapa.
President Claudia Sheinbaum said she will propose to Congress a 15 billion peso reduction in the budget of the nation’s Supreme Court, so that this money can be allocated to educational or healthcare institutions.
“So, we are directing our opinion, let’s put it this way, to the Budget Committee and Congress, so that they lower the budget for the courts and the Judiciary, because since salaries are no longer going to be as high, there will be a policy of obscurity. So, they should reduce the budget for the Judiciary, and redirect those 15 billion pesos to where there is the greatest need, for example, the INAH (National Institute of Health) or to universities that have very low budgets.”
Later, the president expressed her condemnation of the murder of Charlie Kirk and asserted that the Mexican government does not condone violence in any of its forms.
Regarding the explosion in Iztapalapa
The president mentioned that she is in communication with the capital’s government, led by Clara Brugada Molina, regarding the terrible accident involving an LP gas tanker explosion on the Concordia Bridge in Iztapalapa.
“Our solidarity with all those families who lost someone, whatever it takes,” the president said.
