The Campeche Health Secretariat reported that, of 74 suspected measles cases analyzed this year, 14 have been confirmed, including the most recent in the municipality of Carmen. The head of the department, Josefa Castillo Avendaño, explained that studies are being conducted to determine whether this latest patient could have infected others.
During the “Friday of Actions” program, Castillo emphasized that vaccination is the best protection against measles, a highly contagious disease that can seriously affect unimmunized children and adults.
Regarding whooping cough, the official noted that 23 cases have been detected in Campeche and issued a special call to pregnant women to get vaccinated, as this will also protect their babies. She also urged mothers and fathers to bring their children to complete their vaccination schedules.
