In light of the federal Ministry of Tourism’s new criteria, Tamaulipas will work to consolidate the cultural legacy of its Magical Towns of Tula and Mier as exponents of national tourism.

“Tamaulipas continues working to comply with the new rules so that Mier and Tula remain Magical Towns,” stated Benjamín Hernández Rodríguez, state Tourism Secretary.

“The new criteria are aligned with the National Strategy, promoting development based on environmental, social, and economic criteria, and the active participation of communities,” he added.

He also indicated that the 177 Magical Towns across the country must submit updated records to justify their continued existence.

“The Magical Towns must revitalize their essence, merging the conservation of their heritage with technological innovation, to balance cultural authenticity with the demands of modern tourism, creating unique and sustainable experiences,” he stated.

He stated that, by complying with new standards and submitting updated files, the Magical Towns will renew their designation to continue holding the designation.

He explained that Mier was declared a Magical Town in 2007, and that Tula joined the Magical Towns program in 2011.

It is worth noting that the renewal will culminate with the National Tianguis de Pueblos Mágicos (Magical Towns Fair), which will be held in the state of Hidalgo from November 13 to 16, 2025, where the sector’s progress and challenges will be showcased.
