In an interview with Joaquín López-Dóriga, analyst Carlos Peña, director of the firm TResearch International, highlighted the historically low levels of intentional homicides, with an emphasis on Durango and Coahuila.
According to the data presented, Yucatán has recorded 36 homicides so far this six-year term, spanning 11 months and 18 days, an unprecedented figure nationwide. Durango follows with 54 homicides, Aguascalientes with 92, and Coahuila with 93, consolidating their position as the only states with fewer than 100 homicides during this period.
Journalist Joaquín López Dóriga said that the model applied should be replicated in other states that maintain alarming rates.
During the interview, he particularly highlighted the cases of Durango and Coahuila. Both states were previously among the top states in crime rates. Coahuila, for example, was the epicenter of violence linked to the Zetas, while Durango was among the 15 states with the most homicides, even ranking 12th nationally during the previous six-year term.
According to the presenter, the difference in homicide rates is not due to any political affiliation but rather to local conditions and the policies implemented by each state. “The trend is by state, not by party.”
