Michoacán can’t be explained, it’s lived! And this was demonstrated this Thursday night during the national awards ceremony for “The Best of Michoacán,” organized by the magazine México Desconocido.
“The Soul of Mexico” showcased the essence and roots that have built a state full of culture, history, gastronomy, and nature, which have given life to people proud of their land.
The head of the Michoacán Tourism Secretariat (Sectur), Roberto Monroy García, noted that the state continues to stand out by capturing the attention of the magazine’s national and international readers.
José Luis Cachafeiro, general director of México Desconocido magazine, expressed his gratitude to the state for receiving the second edition of these awards, which surpassed the first edition held in 2024.
“We received 13,600 nominations and more than 133,000 votes, which represents 50 percent more than last year. This demonstrates the wealth and pride that exists in Michoacán. The contest is not determined by a jury, but by the public who nominates and votes,” he emphasized.
Among the winners in the 23 categories were: the turtle release at Playa Azul; Lázaro Cárdenas for Best Ecotourism and Nature Experience; Cocina Tradicional La Casa de Blanca, Tzintzuntzan, for Best Traditional Cuisine Restaurant; Laguna Larga Tourist Camp, Hidalgo, for Best Community Tourism Experience; and Concepción López Villegas, for Best Traditional Chef of Michoacán.
Likewise, two special awards were presented to San Jerónimo Purenchécuaro in the Sustainable Tourism category; to Carmelo Rivera, founder of Carmelo Carnitas, in a special posthumous recognition; and to José Octavio Rodríguez Salguero in the Inclusive and Accessible Tourism category.
