Pipeline explosion in Iztapalapa: death toll rises to 25

The Mexico City (CDMX) Public Health Secretariat reported this Friday that the death toll from an LP gas pipeline explosion in the Iztapalapa borough has reached 25.

Of the total number of victims, 21 remain hospitalized receiving medical care, while 38 have already been discharged after recovering. Local authorities maintain support and follow-up protocols for the families of the deceased and for patients still in hospitals.

“We are reporting on the incident in Iztapalapa, confirming that 21 people remain hospitalized, 38 have already been discharged, and 25 have sadly died.”

The victims include:

Alicia Matías Teodoro, a public transportation checker who saved her granddaughter from the explosion. The “heroic grandmother” died on Friday, September 12, from her injuries.

On September 16, the death of Fernando Soto, the 34-year-old truck driver, was reported. He was in the “Victoriano de la Fuente Narváez” Traumatology Hospital. The young man alerted passersby about the explosion.
