During her accountability tour, titled “The Transformation Advances,” President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that 45.939 billion pesos have been invested in various programs in Chiapas so far this year. She also announced the launch of development hubs to benefit this state bordering Guatemala.

Upon her arrival in Chiapas, as part of her nationwide tour for the government report, Sheinbaum emphasized the importance of creating development hubs in this state as a gateway to the countries of the Central American isthmus. Therefore, the Navy will be holding two bidding processes for industrialization projects.

She added that with the launch of the K line interoceanic train in mid-2026, connecting Ixtepec, Oaxaca, with Ciudad Hidalgo, which will not only serve passengers but also freight, the plan is to connect with Guatemala through this border town.

Sheinbaum Highlights Investment in Welfare Programs

In front of men and women from various municipalities who packed the Olympic Stadium, the president highlighted the 45.939 billion pesos her government has allocated to Chiapas for various welfare programs so far this year, benefiting 1.906 million people.

A total of 430,749 elderly men and women have benefited from the Senior Citizens program. “No one is asked what party they belong to or who they are going to vote for, no one is discriminated against, everyone receives the resources,” Sheinbaum asserted.

She added that 80,744 people with disabilities also receive financial support.

The Youth Building the Future program benefits 9,248 people; while 27,248 higher education students also receive financial benefits simply for studying.

The Mexican president pledged to provide a special scholarship for young people in Chiapas, without specifying what type.

She also highlighted that 190,107 adolescents receive their scholarship simply for attending high school in public schools, as do 388,000 children in primary school.

In her first report, she also highlighted the benefits received by the agricultural sector, as 337,000 farmers receive support from the Production for Well-being program, 344 receive free fertilizers, and 78,427 benefit from Sowing Life.

A total of 238,000 people also benefited from Milk for Well-being.

In the education sector, President Sheinbaum highlighted that 9,652 educational centers benefited from the Escuelas Nuestras program, while 593,000 were high schools.

She reported on the construction of the Rosario Castellanos National University in the municipality of Comitán de Domínguez.

Speaking before the Governor of Chiapas, Eduardo Ramírez Aguilar, the President of Mexico announced that this year 100,629 women between the ages of 60 and 64 will receive financial support from the Pensión Mujeres Bienestar program.

In the health sector, she indicated that 189,000 older adults benefited from the Salud Casa por Casa program, which will be complemented by Farmacias del Bienestar (Well-being Pharmacies) to provide free medications.

Various hospitals will also be built, remodeled, and expanded in the capital of Chiapas, this city, Chiapa de Corzo, Tapilula, the hemodialysis hospital in Tonalá, among others.

As well as free women’s centers in all the state’s municipalities.

Sheinbaum Highlights Works in Progress

During her first state visit, Claudia Sheinbaum highlighted various projects underway, such as the modernization of Puerto Chiapas; the construction of the Rizo de Oro Bridge, which she announced will soon be inaugurated; the Palenque-Ocosingo, Macuspana-Escárcega highway in Tabasco, which crosses part of Chiapas; the construction of small-scale roads; and the maintenance of the road network, which is currently suspended due to the rainy season.

Amidst drumming, applause, and cheers, the Mexican president announced the purchase of coffee produced in the Soconusco region at a guaranteed price for next year.

She added that the purchase of corn from the Frailesca region will also gradually double. “We are about to acquire a plant to produce corn flour, so that corn can be purchased at a good price and turned into flour,” she stated.

She also announced the construction of 82,023 homes for low-income families.
