Human rights organizations recognized the work of the Collective of Mothers in Resistance for their struggle for truth and justice in Chiapas and demanded concrete commitments from the state government to search for missing persons, as well as protection for the members of the collective.

In a joint statement, International Services for Peace (SIPAZ), Front Line Defenders, and the National Network of Civil Human Rights Organizations “All Rights for All” (Red TDT) emphasized that the searchers face “anguish, pain, and constant despair” and are struggling to defend their human rights.

The aforementioned statement recalled that on September 12, the members of the collective met with the governor of Chiapas, Eduardo Ramírez Aguilar, to establish a space for dialogue and commitments to search for missing persons in the state. However, they reported that during the meeting they were re-victimized and their families criminalized.

Because of this, the accompanying organizations called on the state government to promote immediate actions to strengthen the search for missing persons through contextual analysis, search plans with a differentiated and specialized approach, and to guarantee the physical integrity and safety of the members of the collective.

They also called on the state government to adopt measures to put an end to the constant and ongoing human rights violations they suffer while carrying out their work; and they also called on the state government to implement protective measures to guarantee the life, physical integrity, and safety of the members of the collective of mothers in resistance.
