The event takes place at the Los Pinos Cultural Complex and is free to the public. It will be held this weekend (September 20 and 21) from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The state’s Morena governor, Joaquín Díaz Mena, was present at the event and emphasized that the project is part of the “Mayan Renaissance” to promote tourism. He asserted that the state can connect with an ancient culture like the Mayan.
“It’s about honoring our language, showing the high level of understanding and the vision that our Mayan brothers and sisters had of the world and continue to have. Going to Yucatán is about encountering an ancient culture,” the governor stated.
For her part, the Secretary of Culture, Claudia Curiel de Icaza, highlighted the role of women in the state’s culture, whose contributions have been part of the country’s transformation. Therefore, the goal was to advance the protection of handicrafts.
“Yucatán has an impressive creative community that is evidently inspired by its roots and tradition, but also has impressive diversity,” noted the Secretary of State.
During the two-day festival, traditional cooks will offer local dishes, as well as artisans of embroidered textiles, wood, and stone who will showcase their works.
A tour of the state’s typical music and dance will also be offered, with performances by the State Folkloric Ballet and the Jaranera Orchestra. Diana and Sofía Pech will also be performing Yucatecan trova, and the Las Maya Internacional group will also be present.
