San Cristóbal de las Casas will host the XI World Poetry Festival, which will take place over four days in various government buildings, educational institutions, and cultural organizations. The official opening will take place at the San Cristóbal Museum (Musac), where poets from the Americas, Asia, and Europe will participate. In addition, other activities will be held to encourage the general public to participate and enjoy this literary event.

Regarding this, Chari Gumeta, organizer of the event, indicated in an interview that the XI World Poetry Festival will be held in the city of San Cristóbal de las Casas, in commemoration of the birth of Rosario Castellanos. During the four days, various cultural activities will be held at various venues in the colonial city. The festival will take place from September 24 to 27 and will be, in the words of the organizer, “a global celebration of poetry in the Chiapas Highlands region.”

Gumeta emphasized that the purpose of holding this festival in San Cristóbal is to continue promoting its image as the most magical of all the Magical Towns, as well as seeking recognition as the cultural city of the Americas. Therefore, she extended an open invitation to all citizens to attend and enjoy the festival in the heart of the city.

“We, as organizers, seek to have San Cristóbal host the World Poetry Festival because it is a magical city, recognized throughout the world. The festival will begin on Wednesday, but the official opening will be on Thursday the 25th in the halls of Musac, where around 20 poets from different countries will participate. The invitation is open to those who wish to join us that day,” stated the organizer.

Finally, Adrián Navarro, also the event organizer, reported that the activities will take place in venues such as Musac, universities, ICATECH, and Carlos Jurado, among others. He expressed his gratitude for the support received from Coneculta, which has supported this festival for its 11 consecutive editions. “Join us for this World Poetry Festival,” he concluded.
