With a call to revive art in the plazas, gardens, and alleys of the Historic Center, the 22nd edition of the Zacatecas International Street Theater Festival was officially presented. It will take place from October 11 to 18, 2025, in more than 18 venues in the capital and 15 municipalities.

The program was announced by the General Director of the Zacatecas Institute of Culture (IZC) “Ramón López Velarde,” María de Jesús Muñoz Reyes, who was accompanied by the Secretary of Tourism, Le Roy Barragán Ocampo, representing the Governor of Zacatecas, David Monreal Ávila.

The event, which took place at the foot of the emblematic Fuente de los Faroles (Fountain of Lanterns), located on Tacuba Street, one of the main arteries of the Historic Center of the Zacatecas capital, was also attended by Representatives Oscar Novella Macías and Santos Antonio González Huerta. the Director of the State Festival Network, Marco Antonio Saucedo, and Inspector José Alberto Pérez Rivera, representing the Secretary of Public Security, Arturo Medina Mayoral.

Muñoz Reyes said that, like every edition of this Festival, the week represents a sensorial dialogue with the people who live and walk the streets of this city, stimulating imagination, dreams, and hope. Our state remains the only place in the country where a festival of this nature takes place, whose programmatic lines are primarily street arts.

This privilege, along with the strengthening that Governor David Monreal Ávila himself has promoted for festivals in the state, has led, particularly in this state, to the formation of many generations who have grown up with it and have felt proud to live in a city that is itself a wonderful artistic scene. “From here, our gratitude for the trust and support to carry out this edition,” he said.

This unique event in Mexico will once again transform the urban space into a natural stage, bringing together aerial theater, contemporary circus, clowning, parades, urban interventions, and performances that make audience participation an essential part of this unique experience.

International guests include Theater Tol (Belgium) and the Phaway company (Argentina), as well as the bicultural project “Perro de fuego y Rata de agua,” directed by Benoît Lachambre (Canada) and Ricardo Rubio (Mexico). They will also be joined by national groups such as La Liga Teatro Elástico, La Quinta Teatro, Armadilla Animal, and La Dudosa Teatro, along with eight Zacatecas companies that represent the local creative force.

The Historic Center of Zacatecas, a World Heritage Site since 1993, will once again become the grand stage for street theater, with venues such as the Plaza de Armas, Plaza Bicentenario, the Goitia, Miguel Auza, de la Caja, del Moral, and Santo Domingo squares, as well as peripheral spaces such as the Cerro de la Bufa Esplanade and the Central de Abastos.

It is worth noting that the festival, created in 2002 and formalized in 2004 by state decree, reaffirms its essence as an open, inclusive, and free event, aimed at children, youth, and adults of all ages and social backgrounds.

The State Government, through the Zacatecas Institute of Culture “Ramón López Velarde,” leads the organization, with the support of the federal Ministry of Culture, through the POFEST 2025 program.

Likewise, more than a dozen state and municipal public institutions participate in coordinating security, health, dissemination, and heritage protection.

The twenty-second edition’s program includes 63 performing arts activities: 40 in the capital, 15 in municipalities, and eight academic events, featuring more than 180 artists and creatives from Mexico and abroad.
