The Baeza, Terrazas, and Almeida families are the richest in Chihuahua. Learn about their business empires, heritage, and international expansion.

Northern Mexico plays a decisive role thanks to its industrial, export, and commercial dynamism. Chihuahua, one of the key states in this region, has established itself as a financial powerhouse with national and international impact. Its strategic location, near the border with the United States, has favored the development of industries ranging from construction to food.

At AS México, we tell you who the richest families in Chihuahua are, those who built business empires capable of transcending generations and who today have a presence both in the country and abroad.

According to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), Chihuahua is the ninth largest contributor to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP). A significant portion comes from exports of auto parts, minerals, and manufactured products, but the state’s economic growth is also linked to the vision of its business elites.

Behind this dynamism are three families distinguished by their ability to diversify businesses, expand into new markets, and maintain control of their companies over several generations.

Baeza Family: Grupo Bafar

The Baeza surname is synonymous with Grupo Bafar, one of the leading Mexican companies in the meat industry. Founded by Eugenio Baeza Fares, the company owns renowned brands such as Bafar, Parma, Sabori, Campestre, and Montebello, and is present in supermarkets and retail chains throughout Mexico.

With more than 40 years of history and over 12,000 employees, the group also diversified into the real estate sector through Fibra Nova, which focuses on industrial and commercial real estate. The origins of this family date back to European and Asian migrants who arrived in Chihuahua in the 19th century and began their careers in cattle ranching, a legacy that evolved into companies such as Abastecedora del Norte and Carnes Selectas Baeza.

Today, Eugenio Baeza continues the legacy alongside his wife, María Emilia García Domínguez, and their four daughters, who are part of the company’s inner circle.

Terrazas Family: Grupo Cementos de Chihuahua

The Terrazas family is another of the state’s business pillars. Descendants of Federico Terrazas Falomir, a pioneer in the cement industry, founded Cementos de Chihuahua in 1941, which evolved into the current Grupo Cementos de Chihuahua (GCC) in 1991.

The company expanded its portfolio with concrete, aggregates, and construction solutions, expanding its operations in both Mexico and the United States. After the death of Federico Terrazas Torres in 2018, management passed to his son, Federico Terrazas Becerra, consolidating the second generation of leadership.

Other descendants, Carolina, Margarita, and Leticia Terrazas, have also been involved in the development of the group, maintaining the company as one of the most influential in the sector.

Almeida Family: Interceramic

The third key surname is Almeida, linked to the creation of Interceramic, one of the most important companies in the manufacture of ceramic tiles, flooring, and wall coverings in North America.

The story began with Óscar Almeida Chabre, who transformed a brickyard into a high-quality ceramic factory. Formally established in 1978, the company was consolidated by Víctor David Almeida García, current CEO since 1982, who promoted internationalization with production plants in both Chihuahua and Texas.

In 2022, Interceramic reported revenues of more than 3.543 billion pesos, a figure that reflects its steady growth. The company remains in family hands: Silvia Esther Almeida García and Víctor Esteban Almeida Jones, sister and son of the CEO, serve on the board of directors.

The Baeza, Terrazas, and Almeida families represent the pinnacle of economic power in Chihuahua. Their companies are not only leaders in food, construction, and ceramics, but also reflect the entrepreneurial spirit of northern Mexico, capable of generating wealth, employment, and innovation with international reach.
