During Wednesday night and early Thursday morning, heavy rains in the city of Puebla caused a sinkhole to open in the heart of the Historic Center.
Although it didn’t cause major damage at the time of its formation, the sinkhole is of a considerable size that is worrying authorities and the public. The incident occurred at the intersection of Juan de Palafox y Mendoza Avenue and 5 de Mayo Boulevard.
The sinkhole is approximately half a meter deep and, if not immediately addressed, could cause serious damage, as this area is in a highly trafficked area. The cause of the sinkhole is currently unknown.
In previous incidents, these types of sinkholes have been linked to water leaks or problems in the drainage system managed by Agua de Puebla. Authorities are currently expected to conduct the corresponding investigations and implement preventive measures to avoid risks to the population.
