A tragic incident occurred this Saturday afternoon in the Emiliano Zapata Oriente neighborhood of Mérida, where a swarm of bees attacked a group of people gathered on the street.
The incident left one person dead and four injured.

According to initial reports, the incident occurred on 24th Street between 33rd and 37th Streets, when the swarm suddenly emerged from its hive and attacked those present.
Neighbors in the area reported that the attack was so unexpected and violent that the victims had no chance to seek shelter in nearby homes or vehicles.
At the scene, a man died after receiving multiple stings. Although witnesses and paramedics attempted to assist him, unfortunately, he no longer showed vital signs.
Four other people were injured.
Two of the injured had minor injuries; they were assessed on-site, and it was decided not to transfer them to a hospital; while the other two were in more serious condition.
Therefore, they were rushed to the Agustín O’Horan Hospital, where they remain under medical observation.
The incident caused moments of tension among residents, who remained sheltered in their homes until firefighters and Civil Protection arrived on the scene.
Rescuers, equipped with special suits, managed to control the swarm and secure the area to prevent further attacks.
Authorities recommended that the public remain calm and report any sightings of hives in urban areas so that they can be safely removed by specialized personnel.
