The island municipality was honored for the second time at the 2025 World Travel Awards, in the Leading Island Destination in Mexico and Central America category, chosen by travelers from around the world.
The mayor of Isla Mujeres, Atenea Gómez Ricalde, received the award from renowned influencer Alan por el Mundo during a gala led by Governor Mara Lezama and the president and founder of the World Travel Awards, Mr. Graham Cooke.
The mayor enthusiastically celebrated Isla Mujeres’ recognition as a Leading Island Destination in Mexico and Central America during the global tourism Oscars.
“We celebrate this award with all our hearts, because it shows that we are doing things right on Isla Mujeres. We are a Pueblo Mágico (Magical Town) that captivates with its natural beauty, but above all, with the warmth of its people,” the island mayor emphasized.
The award reaffirms Isla Mujeres’ status as one of the world’s most important tourist destinations, as it is recognized once again in this international category.
The distinction is the result of the ongoing work of the government led by Atenea Gómez, which promotes actions to preserve the island’s natural wealth, keep it clean, safe, and orderly, and at the same time strengthen a sustainable tourism model that places people and their well-being at the center.
During the ceremony, the mayor emphasized that this achievement was possible thanks to the combined efforts of society and government, who work daily to make Isla Mujeres a place to fall in love with.
She added that Isla Mujeres has established itself as an international tourism destination for its hospitality, its white-sand beaches, its turquoise sea, and the warmth of its people, which provide a unique and unforgettable experience.
Atenea Gómez emphasized that each international recognition motivates them to redouble their efforts to continue developing tourism in a way that is orderly, respectful of the environment, and forward-looking.
She recalled that Isla Mujeres had already been honored with the same award in 2022, a milestone that marked the destination’s international projection and that is now consolidated with this new award, which once again places the island in the eyes of the world.
