Playa del Carmen promotes responsible tourism with a student rally for sustainability

With the goal of promoting responsible tourism that generates a positive impact on society and the environment, the Playa del Carmen City Council and Riviera University organized the seventh edition of the Tourism and Sustainable Transformation Rally, in the framework of World Tourism Day, celebrated this September 27th, with the participation of more than 400 students.

The event, organized by the Tourism Operations and Training Department of the Municipal Tourism Secretariat and proposed by Riviera University, began in Plaza 28 de Julio, with sponsorship from private companies such as Cenotes Casa Tortuga, Allegro, Hard Rock, Riu, CROC, Ocean Riviera Paradise, Pez Vela, Ecopark Kantun Chi, Grupo Xcaret, Museo Frida Kahlo, and Quinta Alegría.

Under the theme Tourism and Sustainable Transformation, the rally sought to raise awareness about the importance of traveling responsibly, respecting the environment, valuing cultural diversity, and promoting local economic development.

During her speech, accompanied by David Soto Gómez, Rector of Riviera University, Karla Gómez, Director of Sustainability for the Municipal Tourism Secretariat, expressed that the event reinforced the social message of tourism as a tool for inclusion, intercultural cooperation, and the construction of more equitable communities.

During the event, participants participated in dynamic activities, challenges, and educational activities that, in addition to promoting fun, encouraged a commitment to sustainability and environmental awareness.

The rally concluded as a space for training, learning, and citizen participation, consolidating Playa del Carmen as a benchmark for responsible tourism with social impact and motivating the community and travelers to become active agents of change in favor of the environment and social cohesion.
