In Piedras Negras, Coahuila, National Guard members intercepted a drug shipment bound for the United States just a few meters from the border.
This is a significant seizure of narcotics achieved as part of the “Operation Secure Border” strategy, which has been underway for eight months in the northern region.
How did the seizure occur?
The agents were patrolling near the railroad tracks and just before reaching the bridge, they observed a man acting suspiciously.
This man, upon seeing the officers, ran under the tracks and threw two black suitcases onto the ground. When the suitcases were seized and inspected, they found 12 wrapped packages inside, six of which were marked “King” and six others marked “888,” which authorities indicated were high-quality, classified drugs.
This merchandise totaled 12 kilograms, and according to intelligence data from the National Guard, its value in places like the United States, and specifically in New York, is up to $25,000 per kilogram. Therefore, the amount seized this time ranges from 18 million Mexican pesos, with drug cartels extracting up to three times that amount per gram.
The seized items were handed over to personnel from the Attorney General’s Office for investigation and subsequent destruction. Authorities indicated that surveillance will continue in the border area in coordination with state authorities.
