Mario Millet Encalada is considered the head of the extortion network targeting bars, restaurants, and taverns in Mérida.
The government official has had a network that sells protection money and, in turn, extorts business owners for a year.
One of his close associates is Alejandro de la Cruz Vázquez Favela, a former PRI member with a dark criminal record. He serves as the legal director of the Megasur G500 gas stations, one of the companies that benefited from millions of pesos for the purchase of fuel and lubricants.
Vázquez Favela is believed to be a key player in the extortion network operated by the Morena administration.
Although he is not a state official, he coordinates inspectors from the Ministry of Health to propose the payment of floor rights.
According to some sources, more than 50 businesses have been closed for refusing to accept deals with the extortion network.
But his involvement in illicit acts is nothing new. In 2009, during the administration of Ivonne Ortega Pacheco, he helped the Yucatán Prosecutor’s Office fabricate a case involving a multimillion-dollar fraud against the former director of social communications for the Mérida City Council, Cecilia Flores Argaez. The case ultimately collapsed, exposing the wave of lies.
Vázquez Favela claimed to be one of those affected by the multimillion-dollar pyramid scheme, in which he told investigators he lost several million pesos. However, the scam never existed and it was all a fabrication.
The complaint of falsification of statements and documents, which was filed with the lawyer, was never successful.
In 2020, he was the architect of the removal of the closure seals from the gas station under construction in Vista Alegre Norte.
That is to say, Vázquez Favela is accustomed to shady dealings, however, on this occasion he has the protection of Millet Encalada, who is the person truly pulling the strings of the state government.
