In a joint operation between federal and state forces, Enrique N.R., alias “El Fresa,” leader of the Pacific Cartel in Chiapas, was arrested today in Mérida.

The suspect is accused of being one of the main drivers of violence in the northern and Los Bosques regions of the state of Chiapas, and is therefore considered a priority target for justice in that state.

In a coordinated investigation and collaboration, the army, National Guard, CNI, the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Yucatán, along with its counterpart in Chiapas, and the Ministry of Public Security executed the arrest warrant for his alleged responsibility in the kidnapping of R.C.L. in October 2023.

According to the facts, Ernesto N.R. arrived accompanied by other individuals carrying weapons at the victim’s ranch, beat him, and then forced him into a van to take him to an unknown destination.

Hours later, they called his wife to demand five million pesos in exchange for seeing her partner alive again.

Through investigations by federal and state authorities, they were able to locate and arrest Ernesto N.R., alias “El Fresa,” to be brought before the control court and trial court of the judicial district based in Pichucalco, Chiapas.

The Chiapas state government expressed its gratitude to the Yucatán authorities for their cooperation in arresting the leader of the Pacific Cartel.
