What happened in San Cristóbal’s Central Park today, October 2?

The events took place today, as part of the October 2 commemorative activities. The day of protest, as shown in videos from multiple witnesses, turned violent.

The teachers’ college students attempted to enter the San Cristóbal Museum (Musac). However, upon arriving, they directly confronted the officers, which led to a scuffle.

Preliminary reports indicate that a student sustained a head injury and had to be taken to a hospital amid the chaos. While another young man was injured after being hit by tear gas fired by the police. However, authorities have not yet reported the outcome of the demonstration.

Parallel to the unrest in the city center, another protest took place on the highway. The Municipal Police Department issued a statement reporting a demonstration at kilometer 46 of the Tuxtla–San Cristóbal highway.

According to the official report, a group of young people from the “Jacinto Canek” Normal School, dressed in regional costumes, maintained a partial road closure to hold a press conference. The presence of the protesters and the sound equipment caused traffic to slow down in the area, so motorists were advised to exercise extreme caution.

So far, authorities have not reported any arrests in connection with the events that occurred in San Cristóbal Park.
