Puerto Vallarta gains ground with Canadian tourism

Puerto Vallarta consolidates its position as a favorite destination for Canadian tourism, with visitor growth, new air routes, and an airport undergoing sustainable modernization.

Canadian tourism has strengthened its preference for the Mexican Pacific, a region that combines air connectivity, expanding infrastructure, and a diverse offering of experiences. From January to June 2025, Canadian tourist arrivals grew by approximately 11.8% compared to the same period in 2024, reaching 1.6 million visitors.

Adding to this momentum is the upcoming arrival of Porter Airlines, which will launch direct routes from Toronto, Ottawa, and Hamilton in the 2025–2026 winter season. With these operations, Puerto Vallarta Airport will connect 17 Canadian cities and a total of 56 destinations in Mexico, the United States, and Canada, reinforcing its role as a hub for international connectivity.

The airport is also undergoing a modernization process with an investment of over 9 billion pesos for the construction of a 74,000-square-meter New Terminal Building (NET), with 15 additional contact positions, 4,000 m² of access roads, and LEED Gold certification, an international standard that recognizes the sustainable design and construction of buildings with energy efficiency, reduced water consumption, responsible waste management, and a smaller environmental footprint. The project, scheduled for completion in 2027, will double operational capacity.

The relationship with Canada has become one of the main drivers of development for the Puerto Vallarta-Riviera Nayarit tourism corridor. Puerto Vallarta Airport was the second largest airport for travelers from that country nationwide. Its strategic location, 15 minutes from downtown Puerto Vallarta and less than an hour from Punta Mita and Sayulita, facilitates immediate access to the most attractive destinations in the region.
