BCS, Michoacán, and Nayarit, states with the greatest industrial growth in June

Industrial activity in the states showed a decline in 15 entities during June, while 17 saw increases, with Nayarit, Baja California Sur, and Michoacán standing out, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).

Nayarit was the state with the greatest growth in industrial activity, with an annual increase of 21.4 percent.

This increase was mainly due to construction and the generation and transmission of electricity, gas, and water, sectors that grew 26% and 65.8% annually, respectively.

In contrast, manufacturing activity declined in the state, declining 1.8% annually.

Construction boosts BCS

Baja California Sur, one of the country’s border states, also ranked among the top three for industrial activity, according to the Monthly Indicator of Economic Activity by State (IMAIEF).

In this state, industrial activity grew 21.2% in June, driven by the construction sector, which grew 44.8% year-over-year.

Other sectors that grew in the state were the generation and transmission of electricity, gas, and water, with an increase of 6%, while mining and manufacturing grew 1.4% and 0.9%, respectively.

Mining and manufacturing grow in Michoacán

Michoacán was another state with the largest increases in industrial activity in June, with an annual increase of 20.6%.

By sector, mining and manufacturing drove industry in the state, with increases of 39.6% and 26.6%, respectively.

Electricity generation (13.9%) and construction (7.2%) also increased.

In contrast, the states with the largest declines in industrial activity were Quintana Roo (-50.5%), Campeche (-17.3%), and Durango (-17%).

In the case of Quintana Roo and Campeche, they continue to suffer from the completion of federal projects, such as the Mayan Train.

In the first half of the year, the states with the greatest declines were: Quintana Roo (-48.46%), Campeche (-18.58%), Tabasco (-15.95%), Durango (-9.87%), and Veracruz (-5.16%).

Meanwhile, the states with the greatest growth in the semester were: Baja California Sur (10.27%), Nayarit (9.24%), Mexico City (7.01%), Guanajuato (5.63%), and Tamaulipas (5.27%).
