Mérida celebrated National Wine Day in Mexico with the announcement of Sabor a Vid, the first festival specializing in wine culture. The event will feature more than 35 national and international wineries, 15 workshops and pairing tastings, at least five culinary experiences, live music, and much more.
On December 6, the Yucatecan capital will host the most anticipated wine and gastronomy experience in southeastern Mexico, bringing regional consumers and tourists closer to wine culture in the best setting, at the best time of year to enjoy an open-air festival, said sommelier Ana María Arias, director of Sabor a Vid.
According to the wine and spirits segment report from the 2022 analysis of the Systematic Information on Channels and Markets (ISCAM), Mérida surpassed cities such as Querétaro, Monterrey, Guadalajara, and Mexico City in terms of growth in wine presence in consumption centers. This is due to the fact that the state has become one of Mexico’s most important gastronomic destinations.
Armando Casares, technical secretary of the Tourism Unit of the Mérida City Council, who was present at the presidium, added that “events like this contribute to strengthening our city’s tourism and cultural offerings, generating synergies between the productive sectors and consolidating Mérida as a gastronomic, cultural, and experiential destination.”
Sabor a Vid will be organized by Vinotelia, a company that has successfully hosted three editions of Viva el Vino, a festival that has become the most important in Bajío, bringing together more than 6,000 visitors, 200 exhibitors, and 500 national and international labels, serving more than 7,000 dishes and glasses.
To date, wineries from different states across the country, including Aguascalientes, Baja California, Coahuila, Guanajuato, Jalisco, Puebla, Querétaro, San Luis Potosí, and Zacatecas, and international labels from Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay, have confirmed their participation in the event.
Likewise, Sabor a Vid will include the participation of producers of beer and other Yucatecan products, and will open a space for some of the state’s best restaurants, offering a variety of options, including sushi, traditional cuisine, Italian cuisine, and Lebanese cuisine, among others, to perfectly pair with the wines presented at the festival.
With the support of the Tourism Secretariats of Guanajuato and Yucatán, as well as the Mérida City Council, the organizers hope this festival will become the most important in the region and that it will be the start of an annual event, becoming another attraction for the city, one that residents of Quintana Roo, Campeche, Chiapas, and Tabasco look forward to year after year, strengthening the ties between Bajío and the Yucatán Peninsula.
It’s worth remembering that Yucatán is connected to the Bajío region via the direct Mérida-León route of VivaAerobús, which offers weekly flights and strengthens the air connectivity between both destinations, giving residents of Yucatán and León the opportunity to travel with confidence.
The Sabor a Vid event will take place on December 6th, starting at 5:00 PM at Casona 333, located on Calle 60, in front of Paseo 60 Square. Tickets are now available online.
Vinotelia is a leading company in training, education, tourism, and the creation of events and festivals such as Vive el Vino, whose three editions have been outstandingly successful in the Bajío region.
With more than 10 years of experience, it has held three editions of Vive el Vino with complete success. More than 6,000 visitors, over 200 exhibitors, and 500 national and international labels, plus 7,000 dishes and glasses served, making it the most successful festival in the Bajío region of Mexico.
Vinotelia has participated in important wine culture events such as Wine Week 2024, the third Guanajuato Wine Congress, the Brussels World Competition, and the Guinness World Record.
