Authorities announced today that on October 9, 2025, it rained in 31 of the country’s 32 states. They reported damage in four states that were particularly impacted, with at least two deaths, landslides, and thousands of homes damaged.

According to Friday’s report, the only state that did not experience rain was Baja California Sur, which is preparing for the effects of two tropical storms currently active in the Mexican Pacific: Priscilla and Raymond.

This Friday, due to the updated track of Tropical Storm Raymond, the danger zone was updated for the impact of the cyclone.

States with the most damage from rain: Two deaths reported

During this Friday’s morning press conference at the National Palace, Laura Velázquez Alzúa, National Coordinator of Civil Protection, reported remotely that it rained in virtually all of Mexico last Thursday.

Yesterday, 31 states experienced rainfall of varying intensity, with Baja California Sur being the only state without any rain. The worst impacts were in Veracruz, Puebla, San Luis Potosí, Querétaro, Hidalgo, and Guerrero.

The federal official emphasized that Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, “was where the highest rainfall was recorded: 151 millimeters.”

President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo stated that “in the states that overlap the Huasteca: Veracruz, Querétaro, and Hidalgo and San Luis Potosí were affected.”

Examining the damage report, the federal governor explained that “regarding the minor (who died), the governor of Querétaro told me that it appears he was carried away by the rains.”

She also announced that “the governor of Veracruz reported that a police officer died while rescuing some people from a flooded area. So far, these are the two people we have in the report who died. We will be in contact with their families.”

Finally, she announced that there will be a meeting with Civil Protection authorities at noon this Friday to assess the damage and what is expected from Tropical Storm Raymond.
