Taiwan reaffirmed its interest in becoming Mexico’s strategic partner in technological development and industrial innovation, within the framework of Plan Mexico promoted by President Claudia Sheinbaum.

At his national reception, the director general of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Mexico, Iván Lee, highlighted that the two countries maintain a strong economic relationship, with bilateral trade exceeding $18 billion in 2024 and the presence of nearly 300 Taiwanese companies operating in Mexico.

“Taiwan and Mexico share a robust trade relationship. When we work together, the results benefit both parties,” Lee stated.

The representative emphasized that Taiwan was Mexico’s seventh-largest trading partner in 2024, while Mexico ranked twelfth for Taiwan, driven primarily by the technology, information, and automotive sectors.

He also highlighted his country’s role in the global semiconductor industry, producing more than 60% of the world’s chips and concentrating more than 90% of advanced production through TSMC.

“Semiconductors are at the heart of the digital economy and artificial intelligence. Taiwan can be a key ally for Mexico to develop a cutting-edge industry and advance toward a future of innovation and shared prosperity,” he stated.

Lee noted that Taiwanese companies with a presence in Mexico are already actively involved in the manufacturing of artificial intelligence servers, with a market share of up to 65% in exports to the United States.

In addition to economic ties, the Taiwanese representative emphasized that his country shares with Mexico the values of democracy, freedom, and respect for human rights, and reiterated Taiwan’s commitment to collaborating with like-minded nations to curb the rise of authoritarianism and preserve stability in the Asia-Pacific.

“Taiwan is a beacon of good in the world. We will remain resilient in the face of adversity and faithful to the values that define us,” he concluded.
