The son of former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, “Andy,” is in the political spotlight not precisely for his achievements but for his controversies, fueling the voices of those who see him as a burden on Morena, of which he is currently Secretary of Organization.
López Beltrán has not publicly denied the instances in which he has been exposed enjoying luxuries that go against the principles of the “Fourth Transformation” movement; on the contrary, he has confirmed them, as evidenced by his acknowledgment of his trip to Tokyo, Japan.
Now, journalist Carlos Loret de Mola revealed that López Obrador’s second son reportedly had an entourage of bodyguards.
According to the column for El Universal, “An irresistible irony… on the front page,” a rumor circulated that President Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration had removed his official bodyguards. However, the journalist clarified that “Andy” did not lose his bodyguards, but rather that there was only a turnover of personnel, which would have prompted a tantrum from the Morena leader.
“Because he threw a tantrum, they gave him back the ones he had,” Loret de Mola pointed out.
This information exposes “Andy” López Beltrán, a young man who enjoys privileges and who is far from the principles promoted by his father, López Obrador, the moral leader of the movement.
Not long ago, President Sheinbaum sent a letter to the Morena leadership for Luisa Alcalde to read before the Morena leadership: “It is not in the nature of our movement to travel in private planes or helicopters… or to travel around with bodyguards and an entourage of trucks,” the letter states.
A call that hits “Andy” López Beltrán in the face, who is the target of a series of questions about the luxuries that surround him, according to news reports, which he has not come out to deny.
Last July, the discourse of “fair mediation” preached by the 4T (Tourist Party) was shattered by images of López Beltrán strolling through an exclusive area of the Aoyama district in Tokyo.
In the face of the controversy, it was “Andy” himself who revealed that he had traveled from Seattle, Washington, to Japan, and that he had paid the modest sum of 8,000 pesos per night in a hotel.
However, a Latinus report revealed the bills for his two-week stay, which reportedly exceeded 177,000 Mexican pesos in expenses. This included a 47,000 peso dinner bill, among other items.
But “Andy’s” luxuries were not limited to high-end cuisine and five-star accommodations in Asia. He was also portrayed as a sophisticated art collector, as a report by the same outlet revealed that in March 2024, before he held any public office, he purchased a work by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, valued at $30,000.
Adding to the controversy surrounding “Andy” is the lucrative luxury hotel business, which reportedly belongs to close friends and has properties located in both Seattle and Tokyo.
In addition to the real estate business, journalistic investigations have also revealed his involvement in other companies, such as Realesco, a winery dedicated to the sale of select wines, and Finca Rocío, a chocolate producer named after his mother.
