Fake engineer accused of fraud in Mérida

34

After years of operating with impunity under various names and fake companies, Nahun Jafet Durán Pardio, a self-proclaimed civil engineer, will finally face justice for the crime of generic fraud, following multiple complaints from people who were scammed in Mérida.

The individual, who promoted himself on Facebook as a reliable contractor, offered construction and remodeling services through pages such as “Edificación Total,” “Constructora N&A,” “Construcciones Integrales MID,” “Constructora Victoria,” and “Construmaq de MID,” among others. On all of them, he promised quality work, signed contracts, and provided receipts with his name and voter ID, which generated trust among his victims.

Once he obtained the advances—ranging from 30,000 to 150,000 pesos—Durán Pardio made only the first moves on the property: he raised walls, excavated, or installed materials to give the appearance of progress. He then disappeared without completing the work, leaving dozens of families with unfinished construction and significant financial losses.

Since 2020, there have been public posts and complaints on social media warning of his modus operandi. Victims from various neighborhoods in Mérida claim to have filed complaints with the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), but the proceedings have progressed slowly because the accused uses multiple addresses and his relatives refuse to accept court notifications.

Reports from the Attorney General’s Office indicate that both his parents and his wife have repeatedly refused to accept summonses, claiming to be unaware of his whereabouts. This strategy allowed him to remain beyond the reach of justice for several years.

However, one of the investigation files finally made progress: P3-P3/01/2025 (formerly UNATD35-GC/2373/2023), which led to the case being brought to court and brought to a preliminary hearing. This Friday, October 24, at 9:00 a.m., the second hearing will be held, in which several victims will attend to demand justice and exert pressure on the authorities.

Among the testimonies collected by this media outlet is that of a victim who documented every transfer made to Durán Pardio:

“Since September 2024, I paid him 140,000 pesos in total. He was supposed to build a room and a kitchen, but he only made 10 percent progress. When I asked him for explanations, he stopped answering. He only came back once to drop off some blocks and never returned,” states the complaint filed with the FGE.

Another victim, Aminda Ortega, reported on social media that she filed a complaint for fraud of 67,000 pesos in 2020, after being deceived in the same way: “He came to my house for a month to deceive me, until one day he didn’t return. The project went unfinished, and he didn’t return a single cent.”

Same fraud, different names

Durán Pardio has repeatedly changed the business identities of his companies to cover his tracks and avoid public scrutiny. When a page accumulates too many complaints, he deletes it or blocks the users who point it out.
This has been confirmed by dozens of people who searched for him on Facebook, only to discover that he had blocked them or that the page had been renamed.

His fictitious companies include names such as:

Total Building
MID Integral Constructions
MID’s Construmaq
Victoria Construction Company
N&A Construction Company
Victorian Construction Company

Several of them are even co-managed by his wife, who appears as an “assistant” in some of the posts and quotes.

On social media, those affected have launched a campaign to alert other users and prevent him from continuing to operate.

“Beware of this construction scammer. If you were scammed, report it and share it,” read posts with photographs and documents of the contracts signed by Durán Pardio.

The complainants urge the public not to be fooled by supposed engineers who offer low prices or demand high down payments without showing any real progress, and they urge the Attorney General’s Office to expedite the judicial proceedings that have remained stalled for years.

With this hearing, the victims hope that a firm legal case will finally be opened against the alleged fraudster and that a precedent will be set in Yucatán, where fraud in the construction sector has increased alarmingly through social media.

Meanwhile, the name of Nahun Jafet Durán Pardio joins the list of fake contractors who, protected by impunity and the slowness of the authorities, have made deception their way of life.
