According to the update released today, Monday, October 27, to the Who’s Who in Basic Food Basket Prices program conducted by the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco), Jalisco has one of the cheapest supermarkets in the central region of the country. In our state, the comparison is made with territories such as Baja California Sur, Aguascalientes, Durango, Michoacán, San Luis Potosí, Sinaloa, and Zacatecas. The monitoring was conducted from October 13 to 17.

The price of the Basic Food Basket during that period ranged from a high of $950 pesos to a low of nearly $750 pesos. The limit agreed upon by Profeco is $910 pesos for the 24 products.

It should be noted that the amounts included in the Basic Food Basket were calculated considering the weekly consumption of a four-member household, based on the findings of the 2020 Population and Housing Census published by the National Institute of Geography and Statistics (INEGI), dividing the total number of inhabitants by the census households (126,014,024 inhabitants/35,219,141 census households).

What is the cheapest supermarket in Jalisco, according to Profeco?

The Chedraui, located at 7540 Río Nilo Avenue in the Villas del Oriente neighborhood of Tonalá, is the cheapest supermarket in Jalisco. The price offered for the 24 items in the Basic Food Basket was $800.80 pesos.

The lowest price recorded by Profeco for the purchase of the Basic Food Basket was $754.00 pesos. The establishment that offered this amount was the Bodega Aurrera López Mateos in León, Guanajuato.
