Specialized personnel from the Michoacán Public Security Secretariat (SSP) and the National Defense (Defense) secured and deactivated seven ground-based improvised explosive devices in the town of Felipe Carrillo Puerto (La Ruana).
The explosives were planted by an armed group from the Michoacán New Generation Cartel during a raid and offensive carried out early Sunday morning.
After responding to a report from C5 Michoacán regarding the presence of armed civilians in the area, members of the Civil Guard’s Specialized Group on Explosive Devices and Hazardous Materials patrolled the vicinity of this town in the municipality of Buenavista and surrounding areas.
As a result of the operational efforts, officers located a total of seven improvised explosive devices, as well as a 40-millimeter grenade. They cordoned off the area and safely deactivated the devices.
The SSP reported that it is maintaining operations between the other two levels of government throughout the Tierra Caliente region “with the purpose of ensuring and protecting the safety and physical integrity of the people of Michoacán.”
The SSP added: “If you find any explosive object, report it immediately to the emergency lines 911 and 089 or report it anonymously.”
