Road blockades persist in Querétaro and Sinaloa despite agreements with the Government

Following the agreement reached by corn producers in Guanajuato, Michoacán, and Jalisco, the blockades that had paralyzed the industrial zone in central Mexico have eased.

Last night, after more than 36 consecutive hours of road blockades, federal and state authorities reported that at least eight locations remain occupied on Thursday, as producers demand a base price of 7,200 pesos per ton of corn.

According to the Reforma newspaper, a kilometer-long line of tanker trucks and cargo trucks stretches along the Arco Norte highway, from Teocalco, Tula, to the Pachuca tollbooth in Hidalgo, according to reports from social media users.

In Querétaro, where representatives abandoned negotiations with the government after the first attempt to reach an agreement, two blockades remain in place.

On the Querétaro-Irapuato highway, traffic is completely closed in both directions at kilometer 64, while the Palmillas toll plaza on the Mexico-Querétaro highway is partially closed, according to Capufe (Federal Roads and Bridges Agency).

The National Guard reported at 4:00 a.m. this Thursday that kilometer 15 of the Mexico-Querétaro highway was completely closed.

Sinaloa, the country’s main corn producer, also lacked representation at the dialogue tables, but agreed—though without a date—to a separate meeting with the Ministry of the Interior.

There are two partially blocked locations: the first at toll plaza 15, San Miguel, on the Los Mochis-Ciudad Obregón highway; the second at the Costa Rica toll plaza on the Mazatlán-Culiacán highway, according to reports from the National Guard.

In Michoacán, one of the states that reached an agreement with the Ministry of Agriculture, the SICT Michoacán center reported a partial takeover of the tollbooth in Zinapécuaro, affecting lanes 4B and 5B. This has caused traffic jams of up to 6.5 kilometers toward Zapotlanejo and 3.5 kilometers in Maravatío.

Meanwhile, this morning, the Guanajuato Ministry of Security and Peace reported that the blockade in Yuriria, on Federal Highway 51 near Santiaguillo and Casacuarán, has been lifted. With this, only one blockade remains, on Highway 45D, from Salamanca to Celaya, near Santiago de Cuenda.
