Farmers in the state of Guanajuato blocked seven sections of highway and a railway line in the municipalities of Irapuato, Pénjamo, and León. They are demanding a price of 7,200 pesos per ton for corn and 6,000 pesos per ton for sorghum.

In the municipality of Irapuato, there are three blocked points: on Federal Highway 90 at the junction to Pueblo Nuevo, on the Irapuato-Abasolo section near the Procter & Gamble plant, and on Federal Highway 45 between Irapuato and Salamanca, near the Industrial Park.

In the municipality of Pénjamo, sections of the drainage ditch are closed in the community of Santa Ana Pacueco. There are also two blockades on Federal Highway 90 between Irapuato and Zapotlanejo, one near the community of Churipitzeo and the other near the community of Laguna Larga de Cortés.

Farmers have completely blocked Highway 45D between León and Aguascalientes, near Santa Rosa Plan de Ayala.

“We have been in talks with the federal government and are requesting meetings with buyers at the national level because what is happening now is that they are receiving this support, but the buyers are lowering prices,” declared Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo, the state governor.

She lamented that this situation negates the support from the authorities.

“They are asking us to hold state-level meetings, but we are requesting that the meetings return to being national for the issue of grain marketing,” she emphasized.

She added that the farmers are also demanding support for the price of sorghum.

The state government is engaging in dialogue with the protesters to try to reach agreements, and Guanajuato announced that the agricultural sector will be supported in the 2026 Expenditure Budget.

The president expressed confidence that there would not be blockades at 39 highway points like those of last week, which resulted in economic losses because plants such as Mazda and General Motors halted production.

“What we foresee is that things won’t be like they were last week. We haven’t abandoned them; we’re going to continue working with them to ensure they have the best possible conditions, because their demands are justified,” she concluded.
