Hotels in Los Cabos complain that street vending could damage the destination’s image

The increase in unlicensed street vendors in the main tourist areas of Los Cabos has generated concern among hotels, established businesses, and business associations.

According to Lilzi Orci Fregoso, executive president of the Los Cabos Hotel Association (AHLC), the constant presence of these vendors has caused discomfort among guests and tourists, who have reported annoyance at the persistence with which some vendors offer their products.

Orci Fregoso confirmed that the situation has become more noticeable in areas with high tourist traffic, especially on El Médano beach, where there is an “overpopulation” of informal vendors without permits.

“Hotels have filed complaints, mainly in El Médano, but we have also received reports in San José del Cabo and along the tourist corridor. We have received several complaints from guests about the way the vendors approach them. In the long term, this could affect the image of the destination, something that concerns us all,” explained Orci Fregoso.

The president of the AHLC emphasized that this problem must be addressed in a coordinated manner by municipal authorities, associations, and business chambers, since the local economy depends directly on the good reputation of the tourist destination.

For its part, the Los Cabos Coordinating Council indicated that it is necessary for authorities not to be permissive toward street vending, since, according to business owners, this problem negatively impacts the tourist experience and the image of Los Cabos.
